The Monterrey track, with the "oval" taken out, is 1.9 miles or 3 killometers in length with a straight of .6 mile or 1 kilometer at an elevation of 1,650 ft. The left hand turn (on the left side of the diagram) was a moderately banked section of the "oval", something along the lines of a typical 1/4 or 1/2 mile stock car oval's banking. The turn to the extreme right was also moderately banked and had an Armco barrier which spectators leaned on during the race. An American driving a TR-3 was killed during the race about 3/4 down the front straight when the hood came off and hit him in the head and the car went off the track to the outside and the car rolled several times. The race was not stopped.
